Community Spotlight: 50th Annual Debutante Cotillion & Scholarship Ball Honors Generations of Excellence

Fayetteville, NC – On Saturday, June 14, the Crown Agri-Expo Center will be dressed in elegance and legacy as the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Zeta Pi Omega Chapter, in partnership with the Fayetteville Area Cultural & Educational Foundation (FACEF), Incorporated, hosts its 50th Annual Debutante Cotillion & Scholarship Ball — a sold-out celebration decades in the making.

With the theme “Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence, Elegance and Exquisiteness: The Legacy Continues,” this year’s Cotillion is more than just a formal affair — it’s a golden milestone honoring five decades of service, sisterhood, and young Black excellence in Cumberland County.

At the heart of the evening are nine poised young women, proudly introduced to society as the newest generation of debutantes. These young ladies, who have spent months preparing through workshops in etiquette, public speaking, leadership, and ballroom dance, represent not only personal achievement but the strength of community investment.

“We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate 50 years of our Cotillion tradition,” said Dr. Naadiya Hopkins, president of the Zeta Pi Omega Chapter. “This year’s celebration is not only about our new class of Debutantes but also a heartfelt reunion of former Debutantes who helped shape the legacy we honor today. It will be a night to remember and a community moment to cherish.”

And cherished it will be. Since its inception, the Debutante Cotillion has awarded over $400,000 in scholarships, helping to open doors for young women to pursue higher education and lead lives of purpose. This year’s debutantes also gave back by volunteering with Fayetteville Urban Ministry, emphasizing the value of service in action — not just symbolism.

What sets this year apart is the reunion of past debutantes from the last five decades, returning to celebrate the program that once welcomed them. The event will serve as a full-circle moment, blending tradition with transformation.

The Zeta Pi Omega Chapter, chartered in 1955, has been a cornerstone in the Fayetteville community, and through its partnership with FACEF, Incorporated, a nonprofit supporting cultural and educational programs, their reach continues to uplift future generations.

This Cotillion is a reminder that tradition, when powered by purpose, is timeless.
